For over a hundred years, the Noritake Company has been supplying the World with their beautiful porcelain. The Morimura family started the manufacturing firm of fine porcelain that would eventually be named Noritake near the turn of the last century. The company has remained true to making products, decisions and investments that will ensure the continued longevity of the business.
Highly efficient manufacturing processes and technological advances, combined with brilliant marketing and foresight made Noritake one of the most successful twentieth century china producers in the world.
A marketing decision made just after WW 2 will give some insight to Noritake's dedication to quality and the company's ability to adapt. Due to the company's concern over the lower quality of post war raw materials available and the shortage of equipment and highly skilled employees, Noritake elected to produce their wares under the pseudonym "Rose China". They did this for two years until higher quality levels could be met, and then returned to using the Noritake name. Noritake then led the way to provide the tremendous supply of Japanese porcelain to America by numerous manufacturers.
The high quality product that Noritake and major Japanese manufacturers produced and offered for such reasonable prices is a major reason that many American porcelain and crystal manufacturers went out of business in the 1950's through the 1970's. The Japanese were simply offering a very good product at a great price, and consequently were very successful.
Today Noritake manufactures fine porcelain china, bone china, earthenware pottery and stoneware. In addition, they produce crystal stemware, flatware and a multitude of gift and accessory items.
