Royal Doulton Chelsea Rose Doulton Potteries originated in London almost two hundred years ago. The pottery produced primarily high quality commercial and industrial stoneware articles (ceramic bottles and drainpipes) until about the last quarter of the 19th century. The high quality utility wares by Doulton were very successful.

Royal Doulton Character Jugs In 1878 the Doulton pottery entered some decorative wares at the Paris exposition and won. An acquisition of an existing pottery in Burslem, Staffordshire in 1882 enabled the Doulton factory to pursue more artistic developments. A new crew of fine china artists started to work with the skilled Doulton potters to begin creating fine bone china. The company offered a fine bone china dinnerware line by about 1884.

Royal Doulton Figurines In 1887, after receiving much world recognition, Henry Doulton received knighthood for his accomplishments. He is the only potter to have ever received this honor. In 1901 the Doulton Company received a royal warrant granted by King Edward VII. From then on the word "Royal" was commanded by the king to precede the Doulton name.

Royal DoultonRoyal Doulton Glamis Thistle Bread & Butter Today, Royal Doulton is a huge, successful producer of tableware. The company has produced fine china, fine bone china, translucent china (T.C. patterns), lambethware, and crystal.

Royal Albert Old Country Roses A number of well-known china and crystal companies are part of the Royal Doulton group including Royal Albert. The pattern "Old Country Roses" by Royal Albert is supposed to be the most popular pattern of all time. Over one hundred million pieces of the pattern have been sold since its introduction in 1962!
