ARE YOU CRAZED?
There are many things that effect the value of dinnerware.
An important one is condition.
One common condition problem is crazing.
Crazing in not something your mother drives you. Crazing is small crackles in the glaze.
Many older earthenware patterns become crazed. It is often caused by extreme temperature
changes. Especially those found in a dishwasher or in china left in at attic or basement.
Crazed china becomes stained more easily than china that is in perfect condition.
Your mother was right when she told you to wash your dishes right after dinner.
Acidic foods, tomatoes, vinegar etc. are special culprits.
Sometimes stains will come out if left soaking in a solution of ½ bleach, ½ water overnight.
BEWARE!!!! This sometimes causes stains to migrate. Your stain can easily look worse
than when you started. So only try this if you have given up hope. Make sure to submerge
your piece completely in the bleach water or else you will definitely have one funny looking
plate. Be careful. Edish.com is not responsible for any bleach you get on your clothes.
The fumes are nasty too, so cover your sink or bucket. And don't let the kids play in it.
Once the piece is removed from the bleach solution, it needs to be rinsed, air dried,
rinsed, air dried, rinsed, air dried, rinsed, air-dried. No that is not an error.
It takes several days. The bleach seems to leach to the surface, leaving granules
and this is the only way to get the bleach out completely.
Don't let crazing drive you crazy.
