Contemporary patterns have a similar spirit as the modernist patterns, but were introduced much later. These postmodern patterns were introduced in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. The manufacturers and designers of these patterns had the benefit of being able to draw inspiration from decades of earlier examples of modern patterns in addition to enjoying a much broader acceptance of modern patterns in the marketplace. Most of the patterns reflect the colors, shapes and textures that were fashionable in the last quarter of the twentieth century.
