HINTS TO HELP YOU IDENTIFY YOUR CHINA, CRYSTAL OR FLATWARE PATTERN.

Often the name of the manufacture and/or pattern of dinnerware is not obvious. This is particularly common when trying to match patterns of crystal, silver, stainless flatware, and older china patterns. Fortunately, we have many resources available to assist in pattern identification.

If you are near Salt Lake City, Utah or Houston, Texas; bring in a piece. We will try to identify it. If you are out of the area, send us a photo or other image of the piece. Here are some tips that will help us to research your pattern--

CHINA AND STONEWARE PATTERNS
  • Please send a color photograph or photocopy of the front and back of a dinner plate. If you need the photo returned, include a self addressed, stamped envelope.
  • Black and white copies are often sufficient if you describe the colors.
  • If you are interested in replacing cups and/or saucers in your pattern, please send a picture or drawing of the cup style in addition to the copy of the dinner plate.
  • For Haviland patterns, if possible please send a copy of a saucer instead of a dinner plate. Otherwise, send a picture of another plate.
  • You may also e-mail a graphics file. Send the file to questions@edish.com as a JPG or GIF file.
CRYSTAL STEMWARE PATTERNS
  • Please send a picture of a water goblet. Photographs of stemware are often difficult to take. We recommend using a dark background.
  • A sketch of the goblet will also be sufficient if the details and the stem are drawn well.
  • A rubbing of the pattern can be done by placing tissue paper over the pattern and using a soft pencil. We also need to see a sketch or picture of the stem.
  • Please indicate the height of the pieces you are looking for, and the width of the piece at the top.
SILVER OR STAINLESS FLATWARE PATTERNS
  • Please send a photocopy of the front and back of a piece and include any markings or names.
  • Since pieces were often made in a variety of sizes, please indicate the length of the pieces you are interested in purchasing or selling.
